At close to 10am, I got a text from Michelle:
"Its my 5 and a half years anniversay today!!"

Lets see, I knew them since JC1 when we attended Pre-University Seminar. Michelle and I were in the same group, Andrew was in another group, but always bounced out from there to join his girlfriend. Our group (C13 if I remember correct) was the crazy one. If you ever saw a guy and an other short girl running across the podium in front of the G-something-whatisname cafe at Prince George's Park Residence sometime around the mid of the year 2004, that was me shouting to Esther "IS THERE NO ONE ELSE?!" (recall "Troy") across the huge half-football court size space, in a game where we were forfeited. I rememebed I haven't watched tge movie yet, so its all rather puzzling. But nonetheless for the sake of laughs, it was pretty fun.
I remember we camped at the basketball court at PGP till the wee hours of the night, talking cock, though we barely knew each other in the group, some of us were fighting the ZZ monsters, crazy bitches-pal Michelle and Esther were fighting each other, some died on the basketball court, Andrew was drifting in and out, all of us scared of the security guard who would pop up now and then right after the intermittent screams.
I remember the useless workshops like puppet play, the hours and hours of long long seminars, where they mind-fuck our puny brains with politcal talk. JC2 and JC1 children talking about politics, not the latest bikini design, what the fuck. We were encouraged to speak out, bombard the rival schools with questions so tough they couldn't possibly interpret on the spot, let alone answer. The school that couldn't stand up to the occasion was jeered off the stage in shame with sparse clapping. Good ones were cheered. The dark horses (YJ was one of them) stood to the occasion, did really well, and got the most fantastic rounds of applause.
We were young and thought we owned the world, what could I say?
But yours truely, being the true blue-slacker, couldn't be bothered. I just listened, tried to retain as much as I could for the written report each of us has to submit to the GeePee teachers. Regrettedly, nothing much other than "COLD" and "HUNGRY" could be rooted more closely to the brain. There was one time the auditorium's air conditioning broke down, and the stupid ones still continued wearing their school jackets. Of course our group didn't, saved for a few foolish asshats who could not afford the idea of 'shaming' their school by taking off the jackets (inappropriate dressing blah blah).
YJC wasn't known to be a good school then. We spoke with humbleness, willed ourselves to be the bottom-rung amoeba of the universe. Even Serangoon Junior College seemed more prestigious at that time (that says alot about the comparison now, huh). All around, I just kept a relatively low profile. Serving myself as the occasional idiot to be made fun of was the more appropriate decision so as not to be out casted.
At the end, I suppose its the true values that shined through (cough cough). I made quite a few good friends, started a holy war with a particular
branch of really really crazy-evangelists, outcasted a few people (after realizing we shared the same sentiments). The crazy people couldn't possibly make more friends then those they already (superfically) have anyway.
So it comes down to 4.5 years down the road, the list of people I kept in contact with narrowed down to 2, and these 2 turns out to be the best thing that ever happened to me in my 21 years (and counting).
Happy 5½ years anniversary, Andrew and Michelle!
